KMUN Community Invasive Plant Removal

  • KMUN 1445 Exchange Street Astoria, OR, 97103 United States (map)

Our beloved community radio station KMUN is dealing with a variety of pesky invasive plant species on their property in Astoria. Most notably, English Ivy and Himalayan Blackberry have been slowly swallowing their hillside and would require thousands of dollars for professional removal. Since many hands make light work, the Clatsop County Master Gardener Program and KMUN see this as an opportunity to bring our downtown Astoria community together, get our hands dirty, and share best practices for invasive species removal.

When: Mondays: July 6, July 13, July 20, and July 27 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm

Where: Outside the KMUN Radio Station, 1445 Exchange St., Astoria OR 97103

What to wear/bring:

  • Work gloves

  • Water bottle

  • Long pants and long sleeves – these plants can be thorny and cause rashes on sensitive skin.

  • Hat, sunblock, or sunglasses as needed

  • Close-toed shoes – this property is heavily sloped, so having some tread will be helpful. There is also plenty of work along the flat sidewalk at the bottom of the hill for those who feel safer on flat ground.

  • Your favorite garden tools, such as loppers, pruners, trowels, shovels, or hoes. We’ll also have plenty of extra tools available for those who don’t have their own!
